Catalysts
Catalysts are a key part of the chemical industry. By lowering the activation energy in chemical reactions while at the same time increasing the speed of the reaction, catalysts have significant commercial value. Without the use of catalysts and the accompanying change to the reaction kinetics, it would not be possible to carry out various reactions, or these reactions would occur at a much slower rate. Furthermore, catalysts also influence the selectivity of the reaction sequence. By choosing a suitable catalyst, impurities of by-products are avoided and instead the production process is benefited and can be achieved.
Amongst other things, Schäfer Additivsysteme offers catalysts for isocyanate crosslinking under the brand name LUBIO® Polykat. The main active ingredients are phospholene oxide derivatives. LUBIO® Polykat is used particularly in polyurethanes as well as in aromatic and aliphatic carbodiimides or polycarbodiimides.
Another portion of our catalyst portfolio includes the vulcanization accelerators. The products of the LUBIO® NCL-series are based on one of Schäfer Additivsysteme’s newly developed Cluster-Technology. These are added primarily to elastomers, such as ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM), nitrile rubber (NBR), and polyisoprene rubber (IR) for example.
